CURE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2011 TRAINING FOR BA/ MA STUDENTS

CURE: Coalition to Uproot Ragging from Education (www.noragging.com) is non-profit organization dedicated solely towards the elimination of ragging and promotion of more positive ways of interaction among seniors and freshers in Indian universities. CURE is a research, awareness and advocacy body and is run by alumni of IIT, MIT (USA) and those with experience in Planning Commission of the Govt. of India.

Established in 2001, CURE is the first organization to take up the cause of ragging and has ever since been involved in research activities involving collection and analysis of ragging data, campaigns such as printing/distribution of newsletters, slogan stickers, conducting seminars and talks in colleges and working with various Govt/non-Govt bodies. CURE acted as a consultant body to the Supreme Court-appointed Raghavan Committee, provided research input to the Govt of India and was cited several times in the Raghavan Committee Report.

CURE’s portal (www.noragging.com) has been referenced by many institutes such as IIT (Delhi), colleges in Punjab and South India. In 2007, CURE launched the first song and video on `Ragging’ (www.noragging.com/video) which was featured on MTV, NDTV and Aaj-Tak. In 2009, CURE developed a documentary on ragging based on the interviews of two ragging victims. CURE has been quoted and featured by leading national and international media including BBC, The Economist, The Washington Post, TIME Magazine etc.

CURE SUMMER INTERNSHIP
CURE is providing an exciting opportunity to students to utilize their free time in a fruitful way with scope of learning plethora of new things by doing and by experience, for a very relevant cause. The internship would require putting together creativity with domain-skills to create awareness and forward the cause of CURE. The opportunities available:

1. Web Marketing
The Internees would be involved in designing, developing and marketing/advertising the CURE content online. It would also include creating awareness about CURE through various channels like Facebook, Twitter etc and other social media. The aim is to be able to take CURE’s message to the twelve million college graduates of India and their parents. This is a desk job.
Skills Required
* Completed first/second year of graduation.
* Keen interest in learning new things.
* Ease of working on computer and a fast self-learner of new tools and software.
* Good knowledge of internet and online websites
* Creative, good aesthetics and common sense.
* Enthusiasm to make an impact!

2. Offline Marketing
The internees would be involved in designing, developing and marketing/advertising campaigns for disseminating CURE content. It would include creating awareness about CURE through various offline channels like colleges, radio and popular youth joints. The candidate shall be involved in forming alliances, creating channels and organizing events to disseminate message against ragging. This includes both desk job and field job.
Skills Required
* Completed first/second year of graduation.
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Love for traveling and meeting people
* Keen interest in learning new things.
* Creative, good aesthetics and common sense.
* Ease of working on computer.
* Good command over written and spoken English.

3. Research
The internees would be involved in doing qualitative and quantitative research on ragging and analyzing the issue from different angle (e.g. sociological, psychological, legal, human rights, etc) Based on the research outcome, candidate would be required to develop relevant reading material/content for disseminating the information and facilitating awareness and broader understanding of this issue. The candidate would be encouraged to experiment and apply new ideas and theories.

Skills Required:
* Student pursuing MA/ BA (final year).
* Strong analytical, critical reasoning and research skills.
* Thoughtfulness and good observation.
* Interest in the issue of ragging.
* Ease of working on computer
* Good command over written and spoken English.

Period: 15th May – 1st August, 2011 (This is a two month internship. Starting and ending date can be flexible among the mentioned dates).

Location: Delhi

Stipend: A respectable amount will be paid to cover basic costs of the person and as a token of appreciation from CURE. A certificate of appreciation shall also be provided on successful completion of the internship.
